Minolta XG series was launched in 1977 as a budget line of small, lightweight and easy-to-use electronic SLR with an automatic exposure mode. XG 9, debuted in 1979, was one of the mature models in this series.
It’s friendly enough that you can easily master its operation even without reading the manual at all, yet comprehensive enough to equip with almost everything needed to enjoy film photography for different occasions.
My XG 9 is a second-hand one purchased in 2005 from an auction site. It comes with a 50mm “kit lens” and I also own a Tamron 80-210mm F3.8 tele lens for it.
Due to the rock solid construction and the durability of the electronics, you can still easily find a decent second-hand XG 9 from auction sites like eBay and Yahoo Auctions. You may, of course, grab one from old camera shops if you don’t mind to pay a bit more.
